What happened at 23andMe
23andMe filed for bankruptcy protection in March 2025. In June 2025 its interim chief executive told Congress that 1.9 million people, about 15% of its customers, had asked for their genetic data to be deleted. In July 2025 a bankruptcy judge approved the sale of the company to TTAM Research Institute, a nonprofit set up by its co-founder Anne Wojcicki, which pledged to keep letting customers delete their data.
None of this means 23andMe’s science got worse. It showed that a DNA company’s promises last as long as the company and its contracts do. So before you buy any test, ask what happens to your saliva and your data, not only what the report shows.

Does the lab see my name?
No. Your tube carries a code. The lab never learns your name, email or address.
What happens to my saliva?
The lab destroys your sample once it has been analysed. There is no biobank to opt into.

How do I send my sample back from the US?
The return envelope is in the box, and the return postage is included in the price. Activate the kit at healthosx.com/kit before you post the tube.
Can I download and delete my data?
Yes. Your raw file is stored encrypted in your HealthOS account. Download it whenever you like, and delete it at any time.
Can I give it as a gift?
Yes. A kit is linked to a person when it is activated, not when it is bought. Whoever uses it activates it with their own account, and only they see the results.
Can it tell me my surname, clan or tribe?
No. No DNA test can settle that on its own. A chip shows your maternal and paternal lines as broad branches, and which regions and peoples your DNA is closest to.
Can I find relatives with it?
No. HealthOS has no relative-matching database. If finding unknown relatives is your goal, a test with a large customer database is the better choice.
