Check HFE (iron overload) from raw DNA
C282Y and H63D are HFE iron-storage variants, at rs1800562 and rs1799945. The raw letters aren’t the variant names, so this page translates them and shows the row of our HFE guide your pattern falls in.
It runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded, there is no account, and it is free. We count that a check ran and whether the positions were in your file, never your result.

Questions
How do I check HFE C282Y and H63D in my 23andMe raw data?
Drop the raw file on healthosx.com/dna/genes/hfe. It reads rs1800562 (C282Y) and rs1799945 (H63D) in your browser, translates the letters into the variants, and shows what our HFE guide says about your pattern. Free, no account, never uploaded.
Does one copy of C282Y mean I have hemochromatosis?
No. HFE hemochromatosis is usually recessive, and one copy of either variant is usually not enough to cause iron loading. Two copies of C282Y is the pattern most worth taking to iron studies.
Which blood tests check iron?
Ferritin, which shows stored iron but also rises with inflammation, and transferrin saturation, which shows how saturated iron transport is. A clinician reads the two together.
