Check your caffeine metabolism gene from raw DNA

One position in CYP1A2, rs762551, separates fast from slow caffeine metabolizers, and every consumer DNA file reads it. This page reads it and shows the row of our caffeine guide your letters fall in.

It runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded, there is no account, and it is free. We count that a check ran and whether the positions were in your file, never your result.

Questions

How do I know how I metabolize caffeine from my raw DNA data?

Drop the raw file on healthosx.com/dna/genes/cyp1a2. It reads CYP1A2 rs762551 in your browser: AA means a fast metabolizer, AC intermediate, CC slow. It shows what our caffeine guide says about your letters, with a sensible cut-off time. Free, no account, never uploaded.

How strong is the evidence?

Moderate. The best-known study (Cornelis et al., JAMA 2006) linked 2 to 3 or more cups a day to a higher risk of heart attack in slow metabolizers but not fast ones; other studies link slow metabolism with blood-pressure effects.

What else changes how fast I clear caffeine?

Smoking speeds it up; pregnancy, oral contraceptives and some medicines slow it down, by as much as this variant does.
