Check your APOE type from raw DNA
Your APOE type comes from two positions, rs429358 and rs7412, and most 23andMe and AncestryDNA files have both. This page reads them and shows the row of our APOE guide your letters fall in, after the points worth thinking about first.
It runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded, there is no account, and it is free. We count that a check ran and whether the positions were in your file, never your result.

The free DNA report reads the same file for ancestry across 15 world regions, traits, medication genes and both family lines. Your DNA story opens straight away with no account; the full report opens after a code sent to your email.
Questions
How can I check APOE status from my 23andMe raw data?
Drop the raw file on healthosx.com/dna/genes/apoe. It reads rs429358 and rs7412 in your browser, shows the points worth thinking about first, and then your type (ε2, ε3 or ε4, one from each parent) with what our APOE guide says about it. Free, no account, never uploaded. Or open the file in a text editor, find the two rows and read them against the guide’s table.
Why doesn’t the free report show APOE?
Because someone arriving from a search result shouldn’t meet an Alzheimer’s risk factor by accident, with no warning and no counselling. This page and Ask your DNA show it when you ask for it directly.
Can I be tested clinically instead?
Yes. Ask your doctor; APOE genotyping is a standard lab test, and it comes with the counselling a raw file doesn’t.
