Globulin: normal range and what it means

Short answer: The normal globulin range is 2 – 3.5 g/dL for adults. In SI units that is about 20 – 35 g/L. Labs differ a little, so also check the range printed on your report.

What it measures

The non-albumin proteins in blood, most of them antibodies. Raised levels point towards chronic infection, inflammation or, less often, a marrow disorder.

What moves it

Immune activity and chronic inflammation. Calculated as total protein minus albumin.

How to bring it into range

Read it with albumin as a ratio. A persistently high globulin with a low albumin deserves proper investigation.

How fast it responds

Weeks to months.

Also reported as: serum globulin

Common questions

What is the normal globulin range?
The normal globulin range is 2 – 3.5 g/dL for adults. In SI units that is about 20 – 35 g/L. Labs differ a little, so also check the range printed on your report.
What does a high Globulin mean?
A value above the reference band means Globulin is outside the range typical for a healthy adult. A single reading is rarely conclusive on its own — what matters is the trend across draws and the other markers around it, which is why HealthOS reads the whole panel together rather than one number at a time.
How do I improve my Globulin?
Read it with albumin as a ratio. A persistently high globulin with a low albumin deserves proper investigation.
